Get The Daily Gain
ONE DAY, ONE EXPERIMENT
A reflection on choosing full presence with family instead of splitting attention between work, progress, and the people right in front of you.

We’re taking our boys to Disneyland today. VIP tour. Mid week. The whole shebang. And I already know what's going to happen if I'm not careful... I'm going to be there and not be there at the same time.
That's been me a lot lately. At home I'm thinking about the office. At the office I'm thinking about home. I'm everywhere and nowhere and the people right in front of me are getting the worst version of me.
I've been short with my boys since I got back from Miami. Quick to correct and get on them… with very little patience.
Here's what I know. The only place I can decide to be present is HERE. Not when the deal closes. Not when the week is more productive. Not when the kids are easier. HERE.
Paul wrote something that hit me this morning... be anxious for nothing. Pray instead. Be thankful instead. And the peace that doesn't even make sense will guard your heart and your mind.
I'm not naturally a peaceful guy. I am always wanting to MOVE…
Sometimes I want to move and progress so bad, I will even move BACKWARDS just to keep moving. With my boys I always want to be teaching, I always want to be correcting them and making sure I am ACTIVELY RAISING them… which can easily turn into me being a TYRANT. But today I'm running an experiment.
I messaged all my teams and let them know, I am going to be COMPLETELY CHECKED OUT of work and with my family today. I gave them one direct access point if there is an EMERGENCY… Then I asked myself this morning… What if with my boys, I didn't react once. No discipline, no snapping, no big lessons, no being annoyed. Just one full day of a gentle presence with my boys. My guess is they don't turn into monsters. My guess is I get something back that I've been missing.
Stay in the fire and never stop progressing. — Braven Grant
